2005-09-01 - 12:24 p.m. So its been one week. Sue me. Anyway, I would like to say a few things. Namely, addressing the situation in New Orleans/Alabama. Sure, its a travesty that these places were hit hard by a force of nature no one can control. However, this much attention would not be focused on the south had that levy not broke. Honestly, the damage from the hurricane alone is enough to destroy millions of businesses, homes, etc. however, the extensive flooding really brought the damage. I have been watching a lot of the coverage all week, mostly because I watched MSNBC for 3 hours straight at work. But I would like to point out some things that piss me off regarding the situation. First, where are all the other countries to aid us in a time of need? why does the US put so much time and effort into relief of other countries, when no one gives a flying fuck what happens to us? My second point is one that really irks me... not because it affects my life, but those who live mediocre existences and can not financially afford it. OK.. Why should I have to give part of my annual income to help relief efforts when actors, professional sports people, and CEOs/COOs/CFOs of major corporations are doing jack squat? Don't make any pleas to middle America to donate money - ask those who have it. Honestly, every actor/sporter/business person could most likely give $1,000 dollars to the clean up of the area an not feel any effects. Oh no... they may have to wait and buy those expensive $5,000 shoes, but c'mon. I don't think I should be asked to donate any part of my income (which sits at $3000/year). I can't afford it. Speaking of things I can't afford - GAS. What the flying fuck?!?!?!? I am going to scream! The people affected most are those who live in areas without mass transit or subway systems. And now with winter quickly approaching, how am I supposed to pay my heating bill? President Bush - you fucked me over. Damn you and your god damn oil stocks. Price gouging is not going to go down - I'm 100% sure I'll be paying $5/gallon by the end of the year. Yesterday, pre-gas hike, I spent $30 to fill up my tank HALF WAY! THAT IS PREPOSTEROUS! I guess I will just have to nix food from my list of necessities so I can pay to 1) drive to school, 2)drive to work, and 3) drive to my internship. HATE! I sometimes wish I was living in an age of simplicity. But then I think back on the last few generations in America, and no one has had a "decent" life. First the depression and the wars, then more wars... now us. So where does that bring us for future generations? My kids are going to be paying for the mistakes of previous generations, just as we are now. Its only going to get worse. I just hope someday we can actually have a president who gives a shit about the middle and lower classes in America. Ok... Enough of that for now. School started on Tuesday. I currently have three classes I must attend. I already have read 3 chapters and written 2 papers. It sucks. I am SO ready for May 13 (graduation day). Anyway, not much else is new. I'm getting more hours at Sears and now am on commission - which should help my paychecks. Better head to my meeting... chao
